Learning and Understanding

I am enrolled in an educational technology course (CEP 810) at Michigan State University. The purpose of this course is to use technology to teach students how to learn and understand new knowledge. This week we examined learning and understanding for all learners. Bransford, Brown & Cocking (2000) define learning as the ability to acquire, organize, and transfer knowledge (p. 31). Additionally, they focus on the importance of conceptual understanding for all learners.

I wrote an essay to define learning and explore the differences between novice and expert learners. I incorporate the ideas explained by Bransford, Brown & Cocking (2000) in How People Learn, and connect them to my own teaching practice. The full essay can be found here [Learning and Understanding]. Any comments and feedback are greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading!
